Volunteer
The LDFB has a very dedicated group of volunteers from our drivers who pick up the donations within our district. to those that work in our warehouse sorting and distributing everything that comes in.
Our volunteers are individuals from all aspects of our community, bringing with them knowledge and experience that helps us grow towards our common goal of building food security for those in need. Volunteers are such an essential part of our organization. Countless volunteer hours have been donated to ensure that the LDFB continues to thrive.
There are numerous personal benefits received by those who volunteer at LDFB, including an opportunity to help others, putting skills to good use, meeting new people, learning new skills, having an opportunity to give back and being responsive to community needs.
Volunteer Opportunities
Drivers:
We need volunteer drivers 7 days a week. Our drivers use one of our two vans to pick up donations within our district. It’s a great opportunity to be out interacting with the members of our community while giving back.
Warehouse Volunteers:
Volunteering in our warehouse consists of sorting food donations, assisting with our recycling program, and helping with other tasks as needed.
Fall Food Drive:
Help volunteer during our regular Fall Food Drive the 1st Monday of October. Volunteers go door to door within the City of Leduc to collect donations on behalf of the food bank between 6:00 pm and 8:30 pm. This is a great family activity. Please contact the food bank to register to volunteer during this very important food drive. Email: director@ldfb.ca
Volunteer FAQ
What is the LDFB like?
The LDFB works hard to provide a friendly environment for our volunteers. The team is comprised of many different individuals who come from a variety of cultural backgrounds, faith, communities, ages and abilities.
Can I just show up to volunteer?
No. You will need to fill out a volunteer application form, basic criminal record check as well as go over our information package with our executive director. Drivers will also require a drivers abstract. (cost to be reimbursed). Please email director@ldfb.ca to request an application form.
How old do I need to be to volunteer?
We encourage that those that apply to volunteer be 18 years or older. This is due to the confidentiality of our clients.
How often do I have to volunteer?
The LDFB asks for a commitment of a 3-hour block of time at least 1 day a week. It is of course negotiable depending on circumstances. Different times of day involve different activities. Volunteers may be asked to participate in weekend or after-hours events. Participation in these is optional.
Will training be provided?
Yes. Someone from our staff will ensure you’re trained and given the appropirate information and a clear description of what is expected.
